Well friends, after many years of pop-up camping, I made the jump to the other side and bought a hybrid.  Just wanted to say hello to everyone, and I look forward to contributing to HYX as well as gathering some great information from all you seasoned HYX experts.

Now all I have to do is sell the Fleetwood Hemlock......a sad but exciting day indeed.   SadBig Smile

Hello to all and thank you in advance for all your contributions and ideas.

Congratulations and welcome to both Hemlock3156 and bobcat1.  We made the jump in April and couldn't be happier.

Welcome to the "Roo Kroo"!!! Big Smile Cool

Are Shamrock owners allowed in the Roo Kroo or are we just red-headed stepchildren (no offense intended to red-headed stepchildren)?  Wink

+1 on the Shamrock.

Just came back from a 4,500 kms trek to Myrtle Beach and St.Augustine - we loved every minute.

Our hybrid brings the memories of our popup days with the kids, and the luxuries of a travel trailer - and the space, our Shamrock 19 with the beds open, is so big inside.

Dwarfed by the large motorhomes and 5th wheels, we felt fantastic - better yet - it's paid for .

Welcome to the dark side.

Thanks, Denis.  Amen on "paid for" part. Sure nice to not have a note hanging over our heads.

(new user here)

We are thinking about making the jump to the other side, wondering if all of you can offer some advise.  I would love a hybrid, my husband doesn't think that is such a good idea.  I want the extra room, he doesn't want to deal with the flip out beds.

Do you still get the dampness/moisture you traditionally get with a regular pop up??
I am assuming it is WAY less, since there is less surface area with the canvas.

Thanks in advance.

By posting this on a hybrid forum the responses you'll get are bound to be largely in support of hybrids because that's what most posting on this site have.  However, I'm one of those who has been there, done that - popups, to hybrid (because my DW said so Kisses), and now a travel trailer (because I finally had enough of dealing with tenting. Dead )  Ask her and she'll say she misses our hybrid but she also wasn't the one who had to deal with setting up the hybrid bed, the tenting, installing the solar cover, etc.  The kicker for me was that the vehicle we thought we could tow the hybrid with (a '98 V6 4.0L Explorer) just wasn't up to the job so we replaced it for towing with a V8 5.3L Silverado CrewCab ... that solved the towing issue but then I began to question why I was still dealing with tenting when I no longer had to.  That lasted two seasons and we traded the hybrid for a travel trailer and eliminated all the issues associated with any trailer with tenting, including that damp feeling.  JMO but if you have a vehicle that can tow a travel trailer I'd skip the hybrid stage 'cause there's a good chance that's eventually where you'll end up anyway, as many other former hybrid owners (like myself) already have.  Just another view from the "other side" of The Darkside! Wink
